A day after the new school year officially begins for Fulton County Schools, Sandy Springs will hold its annual Back to School Bash, a National Night Out event, on Tuesday, Aug. 5
The City Green at City Springs at 1 Galambos Way will host the event from 6 to 9 p.m. that kicks off the school year and honors local law enforcement, according to a news release.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, according to the national organization’s website.
In Sandy Springs, the Back to School Bash offers a chance for students and their families to meet and greet Sandy Springs police officers, K-9s, and firefighters to foster stronger community-police relations.
The release said other law enforcement agencies scheduled to participate include the FBI, Secret Service, DEA, GBI, and Georgia State Patrol.
Students can explore police cars, fire trucks, a mobile command center, and SWAT trucks. A highlight of the event will be helicopter landings on Mount Vernon Highway next to the City Green.
Students attending the Back to School Bash can enjoy a giant inflatable obstacle course, free shaved ice, balloon art, and carnival games, the release said. They can dance to music with a DJ, and experience lifelike dinosaurs from Prehistoric Nation.

Parking will be available at the south parking lot at the corner of Blue Stone Road and Mt. Vernon Highway, or the City Springs Parking Garage at 1 Galambos Way, accessible from Mt. Road closures will occur during the Back to School Bash:
- Blue Stone Road (from Galambos Way to Mount Vernon Hwy) will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 6, until 10 p.m.
- Mount Vernon Highway (from Blue Stone Road to Galambos Way) will be closed on Aug. 6 from 3 to 10 p.m.
This year’s Back to School Bash is supported by the Sandy Springs Police, Sandy Springs Fire, and Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Departments.
