Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 12 with 210W HyperCharge Can Fully Charge in 9 Minutes
The latest Note 12 series from Redmi, a subsidiary of Xiaomi, has been unveiled, and it is spearheaded by the Note 12 Discovery Edition.
This midrange smartphone is equipped with the 210W HyperCharge fast charging technology, which is capable of delivering enough power to fully charge the device’s 4,300mAh battery in just nine minutes.
As a result, users can simply plug in their phone and take a shower, and by the time they’re done toweling off, the battery will likely be completely recharged.
The fast-charging battle
While even the latest iPhones top out at 20W and the fastest charging Samsung smartphone tops out at 45W, it is common for even a two-year-old Redmi phone to feature 30W fast charging.
The battle for the fastest-charging smartphone reached its pinnacle in 2021 when Xiaomi first announced its Redmi 11T Pro with 120W fast charging.
Xiaomi’s archrival OPPO bettered that record a few months later when it announced its 150w SuperVOOC charging standard — which eventually made it to the international variants of the OnePlus 10T.
These ultra-fast charging speeds let these companies make extravagant claims about the fast charging capabilities of their phones.
For example, OPPO’s sister brand OnePlus claimed that its OnePlus 10T smartphone could be fully charged in 19 minutes using its 150W fast charger.
Determined to take back the fast-charging crown, Xiaomi recently announced the launch of a new phone that supports a mind-boggling charging speed of 210W.
Other features of Redmi Note 12
The Note 12 Discovery Edition from Redmi boasts a variety of impressive features, aside from its 210W fast charging. The phone is also available in a step-down model, the Note 12 Pro Plus, and features a rear camera sensor with a resolution of 200 megapixels.
Users can choose between taking full-resolution 200-megapixel photos or opting for 12.5 or 50-megapixel shots for faster photography and improved performance in low-light settings. The rear camera setup is complemented by an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.
Other phones in Note 12 lineup
Redmi’s Note 12 lineup consists of four phones, with the Note 12 Discovery Edition positioned at the top. Moving down the line to the Note 12 Pro Plus forfeits the 210W fast charging, but gains a larger 5,000mAh battery.
Stepping down again to the Note 12 Pro reduces the charging speed further to 67W and substitutes the 200-megapixel main camera for a 50-megapixel sensor.
Lastly, the entry-level model in the series is the Note 12, which only offers 33W of fast charging and is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor rather than the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 featured in the other three models.
Redmi Note 12 Release date and price
As of now, there is no information on a worldwide release for the Redmi Note 12, and based on past experience, it is doubtful that the phone will ever be available officially in the US.
Nonetheless, the lineup will be available for purchase in China beginning on October 30th, with prices starting at RMB 1,199 (approximately $165) for the Redmi Note 12 5G with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The Note 12 Discovery Edition, which features 210W fast charging and 200-megapixel photography capabilities, will cost RMB 2,399 (around $330). Xiaomi’s subsidiary, Redmi, is best known for producing budget-friendly, feature-packed devices that sell in large numbers in developing markets such as India and China.
The company’s Note series of smartphones has typically performed well in these regions and often ranks among the most sought-after devices in those markets.
