Jennifer Aniston says today’s generation finds ‘Friends’ offesnive
CNN has reported that Jennifer Aniston is reflecting on how “Friends” no longer resonates with contemporary times. During the promotion of her new Netflix film “Murder Mystery 2,” which also features Adam Sandler, the topic was raised.
Aniston stated in Paris, where the movie is set, that comedy and movies have progressed, making it challenging for comedians to be careful because the essence of comedy is to make fun of oneself and life.
She also acknowledged that the culture has undergone significant transformations since the launch of “Friends” in 1994. Aniston stated that there is a generation of young people who are going back to watch “Friends” episodes and finding them offensive, highlighting unintentional and poorly thought-out aspects.
The lack of diversity in the show has been a hot topic for a long time, and co-creator Marta Kauffman expressed remorse about it last year. She stated that it is not easy to admit and accept guilt, and she is embarrassed that she did not know better 25 years ago.
CNN has contacted Aniston’s representatives for additional input.
