How to turn off iPhone’s clean energy charging

Getting noticed suddenly, a feature that was introduced in October through a recent iOS update for iPhone is receiving criticism from some users who are not fond of it.

They are accusing Apple of surreptitiously installing the feature on their phones, leading to longer-than-usual charging times.

If you too have experienced lower-than-usual charging of your iPhone, you may want to check if the feature is on.

To learn about how to turn the clean energy charging feature off, read on…

What is iPhone’s clean energy charging?

The aim of the clean energy charging feature, which was introduced in iOS 16.1, is to reduce iPhone users’ reliance on energy sources that heavily rely on fossil fuels.

This is achieved by selectively charging the device when electricity with lower carbon emissions is available.

When this feature is enabled, the iPhone receives a forecast of the carbon emissions in the local energy grid and utilizes it to optimize charging during times of cleaner energy production.

Charging is optimized by using either cleaner energy sources such as wind or solar, or during off-peak times when carbon emissions are lower.

Although charging may take longer, it will take place in conjunction with Optimized Battery Charging, which learns the user’s charging habits and only engages in places where they spend most of their time, such as work or home.

Therefore, even though charging may take longer, it is likely to occur when the user is asleep and won’t notice the difference.

How to turn off iPhone clean energy charging?

To begin with, if you wish to override the clean energy charging feature when it’s enabled, you have the freedom to do so at any time.

In the event that it suspends charging, a notification will appear on your lock screen informing you of the expected time your iPhone will be fully charged.

If you would like to charge your device sooner, you can touch and hold the notification and then tap “Charge Now.”

Alternatively, if you want to disable the feature altogether, you can easily do so by navigating to “Settings”, scrolling down to “Battery,” and clicking on “Battery Health and Charging.” Finally, at the bottom of the screen, you can toggle “Clean Energy Charging” off.
